RDCO Board Delays Decision for North Westside Study

At the September 19 2016 Regional Board meeting the Governance Issue for the North Westside Area came back to the Board for a decision on support for the North Westside Communities Association’s request for support for a Provincially funded Governance Study.

The promised Staff Report was nowhere to be seen and the resolution of support I requested prior to the upcoming September 23 meeting with Minister Fassbender, is voted down by the same group that can always be counted on to out vote the efforts of the electoral area representatives to have a say in our own local governance issues. Where’s our democracy?

The September 19 2016 Board Meeting Audio is worth listening to. The CAO decides to provide unsubstantiated budget numbers to the Board on the public record for Lumby as a comparison to North Westside??  The 8 million budget he refers to is either grossly exaggerated or just pulled from thin air. The actual budget is half that number then another 1.8 million to the Regional District for services we don’t have e.g. sewer, ice rink, curling rink, museum, ambulance station, police station, health center, etc. As well Lumby pays for roads probably another 2-300 thousand dollars. As these numbers were so badly misrepresented I can only imagine the North Westside number of 2 million in revenue was grossly low balled. I have requested this information from RDCO on EA West annual requisition revenue, asset value and service but apparently it is not “readily available“. It concerns me that the organization that is managing and operating my communities assets and services and they don’t have this very basic information readily available.
