Governance … on the way?

KISS FM Vernon has done another online news story on the request by the North Westside Communities Association for a Provincially Funded Governance Study for the North Westside Fire Protection District as a whole.

This email response to the North Westside Communities Associations shows the intention by Minister Fassbender to do the Study as well as recognizing Westshores to La Casa & Caesars Landing (the full North Westside Fire Protection District) as the full scope and breadth of the study beyond Killiney Beach as was stated in the letter received by the RDCO Board at the October 13 Meeting.

This is encouraging news and puts us on track for the upcoming Monday November 28 7:00 PM RDCO Board Meeting where Ministry of Community, capsule Sport & Culture staff will be present to answer questions the Regional Board Members have regarding the process involved in a Governance Study.

“Upon completion of the Q&A Session by Ministry Staff it is my intention to move for a Resolution of Support for the Governance Study and an application to the Province for the funding for that Study.”

Dear Mr. Andrews:

Thank you for your email, received by Tara Faganello, Assistant Deputy Minister, Local Government, regarding the geographical scope of the governance study proposed by the North Westside Communities Association to the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

As you may be aware, the Board Chair, Gail Given, has also written to me to clarify the study proposal.  I understand now from our communications that the Board is considering a study that includes all of the North Westside Fire Protection Service Area and I support considering that scope as it includes the largest populous in your communities, rather than narrowing the geography within the North Westside.

Thank you again for writing and I trust we have a mutual understanding at this time.

Sincerely,

Peter Fassbender

Minister

Subject: North Westside Communities Governance Study

Dear Minister Fassbender,

Thank you for your support in the request for a governance study for the North Westside Communities Association.  We are very pleased for your interest.

It is noted in your letter to the Regional District of Central Okanagan board that only Killiney Beach is mentioned in the study.  Killiney Beach is but a small part of the North Westside Communities that have requested the study.

The North Westside Communities covers an area from Westshores Estates in the north, to La Casa Family Resort in the south.  The distance is approximately twenty kilometers.  The letter to RDCO directors and Chair Given suggest that only Killiney Beach is to be the subject of the study.

We believe that an error has been made in the coverage requested.  It should be the North Westside Communities, not Killiney Beach alone.  Our petition covered residents from the entire area, not just Killiney Beach.

Respectfully,

Bob Andrews,

North Westside Communities Association

President
