2020 LGLA Leadership Forum – Feb 5 – 7 – Richmond

Here are the presentation and workshop documents from the 2020 Local Government Learning Academy Annual Convention. This is a learning and networking opportunity for local government elected officials.

This years convention had a large number of representative with small water systems facing costs as are we that are far beyond the ability to pay. There is a number of communities that believe that Point Of Entry Filtration is the cost effective 21st Century solution to safe potable water where the connections are counted in the hundreds not thousands or tens of thousands of users.

Expanded use of Community Gas Tax Funds in particular for the purchase of fire trucks came up again and again as it does at UBCM. I don’t think the Federal Government will go that far but I do think that Training and Operational Safety Equipment should be included to take some heat off the local taxpayer and aid small and rural fire departments in electoral areas. I have spoken with Dan Albas our local MP and asked for his support on expanding the Community Gas Tax Fund eligibility list.

I spoke briefly with both Minister Selina Robinson and Liberal Opposition Critic Todd Stone after their presentations to the delegates. I have requested meetings from each at a future date when in the Okanagan and they have more time and attention to discuss matters of concern in Electoral Area West.
