ALL CANDIDATES FORUM – Killiney Beach Hall

First off only two candidates attended the meet your candidates forum. The Kelowna entry was unable to make it and no information on him or his platform was made available beyond his name.

Good turnout and many good questions and concerns were raised and addressed. The reoccurring sentiment of the crowd seemed to be the lack of any voice in local affairs of the communities who pay the taxes. I strongly concur.

Water, no rx what it costs and the transparency of the process that got us where we are was certainly the leading topic. I would demand an in-depth audit of the current financial status of the Regional water and waste-water functions. While on water, illness a review of the strategic plan for all the water systems in the Central Okanagan West area is necessary.

Hands off the Transfer Site. There was overwhelming support for the site as it exists. Some concern was expressed regarding the new Provincial Recycling Program, which does not appear to be receiving acceptance from the users.

Timber Ridge was brought up as a concern by a resident. The current Director stated in the October Board meeting the developer will want to proceed aggressively and that seems to be the case.

My buddies the Ratepayers showed with their usual litany of unfounded and false allegations, talking about division and dissent within the community while accepting no ownership in it. I could not be more proud of the time I was involved with the fire department and past community association board members and of the excellent working relationship of these individuals and groups which helped achieve many projects for the community. We saved thousands of dollars and made our community better. These are the facts. As the saying goes you are entitled to your own opinion NOT your own facts.
