Returning Home Information Session
News Release No. 53 — Central Okanagan, B.C. — The Rapid Damage Assessment Team will complete their assessment of neighbourhoods directly impacted by the White Rock Lake Wildfire by Thursday.
Risk assessments will determine when residents can safely return home and begin to recover and rebuild. Not all residents will be able to return at the same time as the wildfire impacts vary by neighbourhood.
“We are eager to safely return residents to their homes,” says Emergency Operations Centre Director Corie Giffiths. “We encourage residents to watch the Returning Home Information Session this evening to understand the safe-return home processes, what they might expect when returning home and how to access recovery services.
The Returning Home Information Session will take place today, Wednesday, Sept. 1, between 4 and 5 p.m. at www.youtube.com/regionaldistrict. No registration is required. A recording will also be available after the live event.
The agenda will include updates from:
- Regional District of Central Okanagan operations
- BC Hydro
- Interior Health
- Telus
- Canadian Mental Health Association
- EMBC Recovery
- Red Cross
- BC Conservation Service
The White Rock Lake continues to be active and is classified as out of control by BC Wildfire.
Recent cooler temperatures and precipitation have supported fire suppression efforts.
The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre is also preparing a Returning Home Guide that will be available to residents prior to their return home. Residents will find this and other resources on the EOC website at www.cordemergency.ca/resources.
