North Westside Flooding – Evacuation Alert Hodges Road – May 27 17

Well as if being in the middle of the three landslides, losing my common access road and having 6″ of water above my fire ring in the front yard the access road through Killiney Beach is in serious jeopardy. The EOC is predicting another 10-15cm rise in Okanagan Lake over the next couple of days with the increase in temperatures and increased rate of melt from the large existing snowpack. That will be bad news for the road through Killiney Beach Community Park according to the experts.

Five addresses off Hodges Road were added to the Evacuation Alert already ongoing in several different areas within the RDCO. I recognized one of them right away! Here is the Official Notice.

New Evacuation Alert

Central Okanagan, B.C. –  An Evacuation Alert has been issued for five properties located off the north end of Westside Road in the Regional District of the Central Okanagan.

The properties are:

  • 9415 Hodges Road
  • 9425 Hodges Road
  • 9435 Hodges Road
  • 9445 Hodges Road
  • 9467 Kilkenny Place

Residents in these affected areas should be prepared to leave their homes on short notice should conditions along the waterfront change.  If they haven’t already, they may also wish to take steps to protect their properties from potential flooding by sandbagging and moving any items from crawlspaces and basements.  Sand and sand bag locations can be found on cordemergency.ca.  Sand is continually being replenished.

For detailed information about these Evacuation Alerts please visit the Regional Emergency Program website map:  www.cordemergency.ca/map.
