North Westside Director Blasts Budget – Kelowna Capital News

North Westside Director Blasts Budget makes for a great headline but it is more about the fairness of the process than the actual budget that continues to be the problem. In fact Central Okanagan West saw a $44.28 or -6.73% decrease per average household throughout the area, the largest reduction in our regional district.

The problem from my perspective is the RDCO Staff should be required or at least incentivized to acknowledge and strive to achieve the desires and expectations of the Electoral Area Directors and the constituents they represent but that’s just not the case. The tendency of senior management to rely on the “rubber stamp authority by numbers” that the larger municipal Board Members allow to over shadow all the electoral area governance and service matters.

All the issues described in the Kelowna Capital News article are issues that have been presented to both RDCO Board and RDCO Management on many occasions over the previous two years or more with no appreciable change in direction; and the costs continue to soar.

On a brighter note I hope that everyone makes an effort to come out and support the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 15 in Westshore Park. Free burgers & hot dogs, easter egg hunt for the kids, bouncy horse races and much more … bring the family.

To support this event and the upcoming 150th Canada Day Celebration with Grant in Aid Funding is an honour it is always nice to show tax dollars in the grassroots events such as these. A further Grant went to the North Westside Sports Club to support its youth soccer league … good on all you that volunteer to make these events happen in our community.

By the way … I hear the soccer group is looking for more parents to step forward and assist with the coaching. Its your community … get involved.
