Water Quality Advisory for Killiney Beach Water System

The Regional District of Central Okanagan has issued a precautionary Water Quality Advisory for customers of the Killiney Beach water system.

The advisory affects 290 properties serviced in the Killiney Beach subdivision located off Westside Road.

Turbidity in the water system source has resulted in water quality that might impact children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.  Roadside sign notices will be in place advising of the water advisory.

Regional District staff recommends that as a precaution those customers and any others who may wish to take additional precautions should follow Interior Health guidelines.   All water intended for drinking, washing fruit and vegetables, making beverages, ice or brushing teeth should be boiled for at least one minute or customers should use a safe alternative to water from the tap such as bottled or distilled water.

This water quality advisory will continue until turbidity returns to normal operating levels within acceptable Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.

Killiney Beach Water System Upgrades

Over the next two months you will notice crews working on infrastructure upgrades to the Killiney Beach Water System near the Udell Road and Keithley Road intersection. The project includes the replacement of the existing Udell Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) and associated water main.

Residents in the Udell area and motorists may experience some minor inconveniences during the construction planned for weekdays between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM. Please obey flag people and signage that you encounter along roads in the area during construction.

The project has been able to move ahead thanks in part to the remaining financial support from the New Build Canada Fund – Small Communities Fund from the Federal and Provincial Governments following the recent water main, reservoir, and control buildings improvements.

A service interruption to the impacted properties in the Udell Road area will be required as part of the project and will be communicated to residents in advance once it is scheduled.  No other Killiney Beach water customers will be affected by this work.

The Regional District currently operates and maintains six water systems servicing more than 1,000 properties in the Sunset Ranch, Killiney Beach, Westshore Estates, Upper Fintry-Shalal Road-Valley of the Sun, Falcon Ridge, and Trepanier areas.

For information please contact RDCO Environmental Services at or 250-469-6241.
