Governance Study is Imperative – Media

The Morning Star printed an editorial reply by myself on the North Westside Governance Issue and the request for a Provincially funded Governance Study. The story Governance Study is Imperative gives a brief history of the struggles and blowback that occur in the process of acquiring and delivering Local Services to a remote rural area. This is a response to the Editorial printed on June 8 by Richard Rolke.

These community resources such as the public water systems, diagnosis our community parks, price the fire department and the transfer and recycling site belong to the residents that paid for them. Although we own these functions and services they are currently run and administered by the RDCO. To run these services ourselves we would need the administrative structure to manage the day to day decisions and operations, health this is some form of incorporation.

We should receive a workable governance model with the first study and financial clarity to that model with the follow up study, also Provincially funded. Armed with this information we will be in a position to offer a real choice to the residents in a North Westside Referendum.

Ultimately the goal is to provide current accurate information on all steps and costs in the search for governance for the North Westside. Once that information is available then it will be shared with the community in an effort to educate everyone prior to a referendum vote by the communities directly involved. This will ensure a decision that is best for all.
