Flooding in the North Westside

Thousands of litres of water gush through Killiney Beach driveway every minute

The link above is the CHBC Story on a resident in Killiney Beach that found herself dealing with a homeowners nightmare … huge volumes of water appearing overnight and flowing across her driveway and on through her property, and onto the neighbours and so on and so on until the flow reaches Okanagan Lake.  This highways culvert has been dry for many years until recently something up slope changed; altering how the drainage flow from the Killiney Beach subdivision reached Okanagan Lake.  This drainage system needs the attention of both Provincial and Regional District authorities to fix as it was multiple government agencies from both levels that have allowed this situation to occur.  Highways (MOTI) have authority over the roads and ditches whereas the RDCO has authority over the planning and land use issues within the community.  These situations are far beyond the abilities of the average resident to cope with … is this not what government is for … to help taxpayer/residents when faced with overwhelming circumstances far beyond their ability to control or mitigate.
