Electoral Area West Flooding – Central Okanagan

It has been an incredibly wet spring in the Okanagan. The ground is saturated the creeks are flowing at capacity as the snowpack melts. Here is a short clip of Shorts Creek as it goes under Westside Road in Fintry Provincial Park.

Got these pictures on my way home from the RDCO Governance & Services Committee/ Regular Board Meeting this morning. As the prediction is for more rain I thought I would get some pictures prior to the next storm, due tonight.

If you have sandbags in place … leave them there you may need them again.

There is a boil water notice in effect on for the Killiney Beach & Westshore Public water systems and it would probably be prudent action for all residents to take extra precautions with water for drinking and personal uses. If this next storm hits like the last one we will be dealing with this potable water problem for a while yet. Signage should be in place on the feeder roads to affected communities … if in doubt call your system operator and ask. Remember it is very important that you conserve water whenever possible during this flooding event.

Some more pictures from Valley of the Sun. Looks reasonably tame at the moment but was a real issue a week or so ago.

Then there’s Shorts Creek as evidenced in the first video running well beyond its natural channel and extremely fast. You don’t want to get too close to this … you won’t fair well.
