North Westside Town Hall Meeting
We finally managed to move forward with our Third Town Hall Meeting on Governance in the North Westside.
There were some real challenges to this one. When I reminded Chair Given of the meeting at the May 11 Governance & Services Meeting she had forgotten the original May 17th Meeting date and the Invitation read into the Apr 13 G&S Meeting. After discussing this turn of events with the North Westside Governance Committee they decided to bump the Meeting a week to allow the Chair an opportunity to prepare and work it into her schedule. The Mail out notices arrived a day late due to the holiday on the monday the week of the 24th, the new Meeting date. In the week preceding the Meeting the North Westside experienced two mudslides, record high lake levels and two tactical evacuations. The day prior to the meeting we had a major wind event taking out the power for 23.5 hours and we met the 1948 record high water mark. Did I mention it was sign up night and the first soccer practice of the season as well.
With all of this we still managed a decent crowd and had a good meeting with most of the issues out on the floor for discussion. Besides Chair Given we also had Director Patti Hanson from Central Okanagan East and her Alternate Mark Bartyik, Director Findlater (also West Kelowna’s Mayor) a seasonal resident of Killiney Beach and Rick deYoung a councilor from the City of West Kelowna. The Board was well represented.
